IronJoe's 1987 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible MSnEDIS

Post by IronJoe »

Silly IronJoe, nobody tunes convertibles!

Originally ran under Bosch LH 2.2 ECU & bosch distributor w/vacuum advance & retard.

Currently:
-MS-1 v2.2 fuel & ignition control
-Ford EDIS standalone ignition system, no distributor
-Boost control utilizing Saab APC solenoid currently in work

Tuning goal is 300whp, or the most powerful c900 convertible in the USA - whichever comes first. Modifications to the car include:

-Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid .60/.63 w/Stage III exhaust wheel, 360* thrust bearing & gapped oil seal
-Siemens 60lb/hr fuel injectors
-SS Mandrel-bent equal length header
-Innovate LC-1 wideband o2 sensor
-Custom 3" downpipe, no catalyst, free flowing Magnaflow exhaust
-Custom 1.5" external WG atmospheric dump pipe
-Precision 350hp intercooler (26 3/4" x 6 3/8" x 3.5")
-TiAL 38mm external wastegate set at 8.7 PSI
-Swedish Dynamics Kevlar/Sintered Iron clutch & Sachs pressure plate
-2.3L head & 2.1L intake manifold (lowered compression ratio to 8.75:1)
-NA intake cam & 85 900T exhaust cam
-2.5" mandrel-bent aluminum IC piping
-3.0 bar fuel pressure regulator
-Open-element cone filter in inner fender, 3" intake
-Oil catch can
-Quaife LSD

At this point (besides boost control) tuning is all there is left to do. I will tune the car to the best of my ability this summer, and am planning a professional dyno tuning session this fall.

Dear,
Your car is very nice !

Did you built the exhaust manifold youself ?
Could you show me please your crankshaft position sensors on the damper pulley for EDIS ?
Do you kown if it possible to use EZK sensors to MS2 and MS2 to EDIS coil ?
I'm thinking about use MS II (ignition and fuel) or T5 on my C900 after rebuilt the motor.

Best regard !

Hi Slash,

No I did not build the manifold myself. It was built in a small run of 5 or so in a group buy. Close up of the header after 2000* ceramic coating:

Here is a picture of the trigger wheel & VR sensor on the B202 block.

I just finished rebuilding the motor - polished crank, balanced rods, bored .040 over with Mahle forged pistons. Once it's broken in I'll be hitting the dyno. Here's how it sits as of now:

Very nice !

Thank you for the informations.
I will rebuild the engine and the gearbox of my turbo 16v 87, and i'm going to choose your MS2 solution.
I'm interesting in the ethanol's flexibilty.
