Latest tune using MAF. Laptop hard drive crapped out so I had to rebuild from scratch & hand written notes.

UdaMan! I'm doing this on my truck. Thanks for sharing all these fantastic ideas.
Did you need to trim your hood to the the 460 upper plenum to fit?

Briang,
The hole in my hood is from when I got it for free many years ago; previous car it was on had a carb fire so it was scorched. The hood scoop is from a Ford Fairmont turbo. The clearence is about 1/2=3/4 inch to the bottom of the hood. Next time I open the hood I'll try and remember to measure the height from the intake for you.

390 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 EDIS

Post by 64 Ford »

I've gotten a couple of requests for some more details of how I put the Ford EDIS-8 on my 390 so here goes.
The baisc diagram is here http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/EDIS.htm about 3/4 of the way down the page. I wired mine as printed; here are the cylinder pairs

Pin 8 > coil connector 1 > coil A > 1 & 6
Pin 9 > coil connector 2 >coil B > 5 & 3

Pin 11> coil connector 1> coil C> 4 & 7
Pin 12 > coil connector 2> coil D> 2 & 8

One of the hiccups I had was at first it wouldn't fire unitl I used the Ford capacitor going from pin 6 to coil connector 2 and then grounding it to the engine away from the ground from pin 10. The second hiccup I had once it fired up was no ignition advance; it was stuck at 10 degrees BTDC. I rechecked & redid my connectors & validated the values in MT and it has worked ever since.

The next mod is to do COP once I figure out a way to mount the coils; it'll be fun since the center spark plugs angle at each other.

Hi 64 Ford,
Here is how I mounted my coils. I bought complete coil packs off eBay for a 2002 Tahoe.
The coil packs ended up placing each coil between each injector. Fit perfect.
I made three half inch spacers 1/2 OD with 5/16 ID and drilled through the valve cover 3 5/16 holes.
I fit the head of the bolt through the inside of the valve cover through the spacer and into the coil pack mounting assembly.
On the inside of the valve cover I sealed the head of the bolt with small dab of RTV and put another small dab of RTV on the spacer where it sits on the valve cover.
I'd like to thank you for all the great ideas and pictures of your project here, you have helped me a great deal.

Briang,
Looks better than mine! I just bought some cast valve covers and was planning on putting the coils on the outboard side but with a heat shield between them and the exhaust.

Hey guys,

Anyone still watching this thread, I've got a 66 f100 with a 360 that I am about to rig up in a similar fashion.

I was wondering how much better fuel mileage you are getting over a carbed version.

Thanks,

Josh

Josh,
Using Megalog viewepe of the data log indicates at 65 mph it gets 23-25 mpg; best I ever got with a carb is 17-18 mpg. That's with a 2.75 rear gear and 29 inch tall tire. My gut sense is yes it gets better mileage; but :| I'm a trust but verify type, so until I drive it & put more miles on it I'd have to say your mileage may vary.
