Post by WolfGTI »

Name: Mendra
Vehicle: 1999 VW Golf Wolfsburg
Engine: 1984cc, I4, TT276 camshaft, ported, polished and bench flowed head.
Exhaust Supersprint stainless header 4-2-1, into 2.5" Dynatech Power Cat, then into Jetex 2.5" stainless steel cat back.
Injection: Port injection, 30lb Siemens Deka injectors, Malpassi adj. FPR, Rowland DCOE manifold, 45mm Puma Racing Individual Throttle Bodies.
Description: Daily Driven
Website: http://home.comcast.net/~golfwolfsburg/

Running Megasquirt n' Spark -Extra 024S9. Tuning in the itb's is a pain in the butt, but with help from Dave @ Fire&Fuel (who built my ECU), it has been fun. Had some trouble initially with configuring the LC1 but now its great, currently working on fine tuning the engine using target AFR's. Next plan is for a fully built and balanced bottom end with 12.5:1 compression.

Update - Runs well, cold start issues this winter have proven troublesome to sort out but getting there. My tuning approach has changed. I tried to tune it with the wideband and had my fuel map to where I'd cruise and have 1% correction. However I could not get the AE to the point that the car is smooth with the map setup like that, there was always hesitation and bucking. The end result is the car now is set to 50% correction and will hold stoich or leaner at cruise without any of the AE trouble like before.

2/27/2006 - Further update - with the latest MSnS-E code (029i), the rpm based AE seems to work very well. I have started to modify the fuel curve again, leaning it out for cruising, presently the EGO is correcting about 15% at cruise. There is no accel stumble any more, I hope to have the map tuned to a max of 5% correction but generally within 2% correction.

3/1/2006
- EGO correction down to within 5% almost everywhere, and down to 3% @ part throttle cruise. :D --> MSnS-E Code 029J1

Update 4/10/2006
Took her to the track for the first time since the ITB's are on - best time before the MSnS-E and ITB's - 15.8 @ 83mph - 2.4 60ft

Today I ran 15.4 @ 88.2 mph with 2.3 60ft - the ITB's plus MSnS-E gained me 4/10th - I am stoked.

1st Dyno runs - still very rough A/F - I need to adjust the placement of my VE bins I believe to get it all sorted. However I am happy with my 170hp + to the wheels and 140+ lb/ft also to the wheels. Currently working on fabbing the header.

Pic of the header replacing the OEM manifold - 1.625 inch primaries stepped into 1.75" with handbuilt collector with 6 inch merge / flow cone inside. Equal length 4 into 1 - tuned to peak @6800 -7200 rpm range.

Image
Best time on the new motor - untuned since the header / 48mms were put on - 14.66@ 95.2 - with 2.34 60ft - car weighs 2650 with driver.
