Basil Daham, 1997 SEAT Cordoba SX 2.0-16V

Post by jassem99 »

Name: Basil Daham ;
Vehicle: 1997 SEAT Cordoba SX 2.0-16V;
Engine: 1984cc, ABF engine code (same as VW), 16 valve. Stock;
Injection: Port injection, 225cc/min, Digifant 3.2 ECU, 60-2 trigger wheel, hall effect crank sensor, PWM 2-wire bosch idle valve, Bosch coolant and intake temp sensors, single coil with integrated module (module eliminated and VB921 used);
Description: The objective of this install was to use the original wiring loom. To do this, an old 68 pin ECU was cannibalised and turned into an adapter. The MS was installed inside the car, with wires running to the 'ECU' box. All the original sensors and actuators were used, with the exception of a small mod to the coil to eliminate the VW dumb ignitor.

MS v2.2 mods included flipping the opto circuit input as used by the VW community, and as outlined in schematic 2 here. A BD679 was installed to PWM control the 4 ohm idle stability valve.

Pin configuration:

MS GROUNDS (8,9,10,11) go to T68/1
MS SENSOR GROUNDS (15,19) go to T68/33
MS MAT (20) goes to T68/36
MS CLT (21) goes to T68/14
MS TPS SIGNAL (22) goes to T68/40
MS O2 SENSOR SIGNAL (23) could be T68/20 or T68/42 (not sure which because i simply fed this pin to the wideband)
MS PIN 24 was fed a constant +12V from T68/38, and the hall sensor power (T68/68 ) was also fed +12V
MS XG1 (inside the MS box) was fed the crank sensor signal from T68/67 (using pin 6 on the DB37)
MS TPS Vref (26) goes to T68/41
MS coil control (36 in this case) goes to T68/8
MS +12V (28 ) goes to T68/38
MS FIDLE (30) goes to T68/27
MS INJ1 (32,33) goes to T68/24 and T68/25
MS INJ2 (34,35) goes to T68/26 and T68/2
MS FUEL PUMP (37) goes to T68/6

Options included:

LAUNCH CONTROL on pin 3
Shift light CPU10, pin 4
Shift light CPU11, pin 5
Switchable tables, pin 31
Tacho out, (pin 29) was fed to T68/22
Output 2, pin 27
Knock input, pin 25

The car has two 3-wire knock sensors. A Knocksense was obtained from Boris, and the two sensors were wired in parallel to the Knocksense input, while the 'Tim' signal from Knocksense was fed to pin 25 on the MS. T68/34 and T68/57 are the knock sensor signal wires, while T68/10 T68/55 T68/32 T68/56 are all grounded on the Knocksense and treated as 'shields'.

Crank signal was decoded using MSnS-E 029g. 60-2 wheel, with 14th (15th if 0 and 1 are the missing teeth) tooth at TDC. Trigger angle 60*. Trigger position A was 5, Trig pos B 35, Trig return pos A 14, Trig return pos B 44.

Will post VEX/MSQ's when car is properly tuned.

THe MSQ is for 29g MSnS-E. The fuel VEX aims for ~14 AFR at idle, 13.5 at WOT, and around 17-18 at cruise. The spark VEX is simply the CIS-E original timing map, but for best power i advance it 6 degrees using the 'trim' command from Megatune.

New set-up

Post by jassem99 »

Electrically, the only upgrade was to a V3 PCB. Changes included changing tach out from X5 (v2.2) to X3 (v3). Bosch intake temperature sensor swapped for GM intake sensor, and Easytherm used to change 029q2 code.

Mechanically, a Nissan turbocharger was installed. A T3 60 trim compressor with a 0.63 AR turbine. 2.5" downpipe with V-band. Audi external wastegate. A short runner intake manifold was fabricated, using a VR6 throttle body and a VW 1.8T fuel rail. Mitsubishi Starion front mount intercooler, 2" intercooler piping. Mocal 19 row oil cooler added with thermostatic sandwich plate. Forge RS blow-off valve. Audi TT 317cc/min injectors. VR6 4 bar FPR. 0.4 bar boost for now since standard compression ratio still being used.

New MSQ attached to this post. Mapped for 11-12 AFR on boost, 16-17 AFR during cruising, 15-16 AFR everywhere else. Around 20* total timing using good fuel.
