Godwin, 1990 BMW M70 V12

Post by Godwin »

Name: Godwin
Vehicle: 1990 M70 V12 on a stand
Engine: stock
Injection: stock
Description: Treated the M70 as 2 M20s.. using 2 MS and EDIS6 units (2 sensors on 1 ford wheel). Ran as a proof of concept only, each M30 TPS controls each bank seperately (haven't try to vary each side).

The trick is to install and test 1 bank first. The engine can start and work with only 1 bank (it is a feature). Once you complete one bank then start on the other. I hope in the future with CAN we can shut down one bank and have a type of multipe displacement system!

Hello,
I want to TT an M73 but have discovered this is near impossible and probably never done before. I have an M70 sitting in my garage and this this is a better solution. I was advised to use a stand-alone ECU. What have you done so far?

This thread is pretty ancient and evidently no-one has taken this any further. However I just bought an '89 750i with an M70 V12 and would love to MS it some time later in the year once I get the basics sorted.

Is the dual MS II approach what would be done these days, or has there been such improvement in the system that there's now a better way? Note that I do like the idea of retaining the capability to run on 6 cylinders in case of a component failure in one system.

Treating this as a pair of M20B25's wouldn't be too bad an idea since there's a starter map available at DIYPNP but just wanted to check first.

Thanks,

Rob

I also am looking for someone that has done this with an M70 motor from a 1989 750il that I have, plan on pulling the motor in the next week or two and wanted to use a single ECU.
