I wonder why they let off the throttle so early... I bet there is still more power in that engine!

well 3 things actually.

1. I forgot I had put in the 5800 rpm rev limiter chip in the msd ignition, I also kept wondering why there was rev limiter since I had taken out the stock fuel pump relay, lol , I really didn't know how the engine was going to react the first time I started driving it on megasquirt

2. I didn't want to blow up the engine or set new world records for horsepower on a JH block

3. I think I need a stiffer wastegate spring, at 14 psi it starts to bleed off boost, we were actually seeing a 1-1.8 psi drop around 5300 rpms

overall I'm happy with the torque I got, it's amazing on the highway, the roll-on acceleration just surprised everyone that tailgates me. I'm saving up for water injection then maybe next time we'll up the rpms

HEY EMAIL ME THEN! You said the magick words Rico! There are some good tricks for doing water injection. Aquamist is the way to go! Unfortunatly their systems usally cost more than us poor VW owners spend on the car itself.

Richard Lamb (from Aquamist) helped me sort out how to integrate the MF-2 with MegaSquirt about 2yrs ago. The idea is to use the MS for mapping the setup and to use thw MF-2 soley for diagnostics. Unfortunatly I have never had a chance to finish the setup due to a blown turbo... Still I could have the proof of concept working and proven in a day easily enough.

My BIGGEST concern running water injection is the DIRE NEED for a safety net if running WI to get away with more boost safetly. Not if, but WHEN the system fails, you need a safety net. Eventualy a nozzel will clog up, or a line will break.

The "proven" setup to integrate the high speed Aquamist valve and MegaSquirt I think sucks. That valve is not very durable or reliable. Aquamists manifold type setups I feel are a LOT better. And I also don't like being limited to a simple percentage and no tuning capabilities of that setup. Anyways I have a bunch of bainstorms and thoughts on it and have worked out most of the bugs and sourced all the bits for a system that addresses all these concerns. And also doesn't have the Aquamist system pricetag....

Hi James,

Sounds interesting, I've always been interested in the aquamist for a couple of years now, but it's just way too expensive for a daily driver that doesn't have a race team budget, I've been checking out snowperformance, have you heard of them? They offer cheap water injection kits (around 275 for stage 1) is your kit similar in function? Keep me posted on your kit, I wouldn't mind doing research and development =)

I will email you directly on that. I would be very interested in working with you on the setup!
