Bucks E30 318I TURBO JET ENGINE!
Vehicle: 1984/BMW/318Il
Engine: Forged internals , stock head/cam, bored .030 over, TRUE 1.8L now, 2.25 inch Honda TB, JUMBO JET Garret T40E/T3 hybrid turbo, Megasquirt ][, Ford escorot EDIS system, custom made downpipe, header, and altenator/power streering braket (off ford escort J you just gota love escorts!, hell I own one !
Injection: Port injected , cover up the stock CIS holes inside head, later will use those for direct port water injection perhaps… stock intake manifold, larger throttle body.
Description: When I took most parts I gutted out when I was stripping car I notice at local dump when I went drop it off, I shaved off 250 pounds alone in front of car, relocated battery to trunk (made cool strut brace to hold it J. Over all I think once I tweak out the bugs in megasquirt and get it running half decent, this baby is going scream!! Watch out honda’s and suby’s, theres new kid in town!

Well where to start!!!…. last night I fired it up for first time…. Don’t laugh when I go into detail hear!…. first I had many problems trying get the PWM idle valve to work properly and finding the traces went bad after the second transplant of the TIP120 I had relocate the Proto area to put the tip120 and rewire it directly to the CPU output…. ( I don’t trust these traces anymore! ) anyhow after spending two hours why it wouldn’t work I found the fly back diode was shot to (I don’t think a few watt 22 volt diode is “GE†for this, it needs be a higher rating!….
ANYHOW , once I saw I had it semi working and bunch of rats nest of wires on my engine I preceded to wire up the Coolant sensor, Air sensor , injectors , etc… I left out O2 for now I need find a good connector for it….
So, next step was calibrating the stuff in megasquirt and getting all the parameters of my injectors, sensor types, etc… good stuff into it… and after that I was ready fire her up!!!
This is where it gets “fun†at first I forgot to hook up the idle valve so motor would puder then die once it tried to start (to much air, not enough fuel)… once I hooked that up it fired right up!!!! I never thought id get this point , holy S**T it really works, after many months of trouble/dreaming it worked…. Was I happy!! But this is good part, I didn’t even have the dam vacuum hooked up to the Megasquirt hehehehh…. DOUGH! … ok I hooked that up motor ran tab bit better, was pulling 50 kpa vacuum at 1200 rpm…. Seems roughly normal, hope I don’t got no air leaks somewhere….
After about 5 minutes running motor became very very hot!!!! Not say I couldn’t even give it gas or it would sort of pudder and then rev up! Im hoping the motor being hot is just case of new parts + wrong amount of fuel + very off timing…. So this weekend I got my hands full!! I need rewire the entire rats nest get the melted wires off my down pipe (hehe) and make this sucker happen!!!! I am amazed how good the Megasquirt ran , I did have my doubts at first heh, I’m yet to see its fully capability..

gota say thanks everyone on megasquirt fourms and people who spent many years building this great computer!!!! i cant wait to get my boost controller and start shooting for the stars!!!!
on a side note, when driveing today i lost power all of sudden and it seemed one the pistons wasnt fireing after takeing her home and check it out, i melted my spark plug wires onto the header , stupid me thinking these wires can take the heat with out mounting them,,, there gose my nice bosch 40 doller wires , dont even got 10 miles on them yet heh,....

even so, i was pushing good 17 psi of boost , i tell u this i thought tuneing the fuel was a hefty task, man tuning the ignition is insane!!! i went frm a scary retarded map to somethng if anytone were see it probley think im crazy, i pretty much advance the hell out of everywhere, im hiting 45 degrees at cruise and 36~26 from 5 psi ~ 17psi.... i still notice i got few bumps at high rpm and high boost, my injectors are hiting 90% duty cycle so gota figure something out....
so we will see what breaks next
